Manager Shipping Registration Office
Position Purpose
The position of Manager of the Shipping Registration Office carries out the functions of the Registrar of Ships. The Registrar is a statutory office created under the Shipping Registration Act 1981 and is established within the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). AMSA Maritime Operations Division has overall responsibility for the administration of the Registrar’s position.
The Shipping Registration Act provides for the establishment and maintenance of a Register of Ships. The Register distinguishes between some Australian ships that must be registered and others that may be registered. The Manager is responsible for ensuring that Australian ships are properly registered on the Register.
Prerequisites
- Business Degree or 3 years experience in a management position.
- Clear understanding of the role and processes of a Registration Office.
- Ability to understand and apply the requirements of the Shipping Registration Act and Regulations.
Responsibilities
- Fulfil the statutory responsibilities for the maintenance of the Register of Ships and control of the Registration Office (s.48 of the Act).
- Exercise the statutory functions of the Registrar and discharge the duties of the Registrar.
- Ensure that the Register is properly maintained, including development and operation of the database containing the Register.
