A crewman suffering heart problems will be evacuated from the French-flagged oil tanker Algarve when it docks at Cocos Island tonight.

The 29-year-old Bulgarian man became ill Monday afternoon and the vessel, en route from Angola to China, was directed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to Cocos Island to enable his evacuation. It is due to arrive at Cocos Island about 4am EST tomorrow.

The man, whose condition is described as stable, will be transported by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Perth for medical treatment.
