Missing aircraft located – Cardwell State Forest

A search coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Centre – Australia (RCC) has located an aircraft missing since Thursday 16 August 2007 on a flight between Ingham and Tully in Queensland.

The wreckage of the 8 seater Fletcher turbo-prop, single- engine aircraft was located on a ridge line in the Cardwell State Forest approximately 4km north west of Dallachy about 10.15am today after an extensive air and ground search.   The aircraft was located within the primary search area by a local Bell 206 helicopter based in Tully.

The 34-year-old male pilot, who was the only person on board the aircraft has not survived.

The plane was last seen in Ingham at approximately 3.00pm on Thursday 16 August 2007 and was due to arrive in Tully at approximately 4.00pm, but failed to do so.

Over the duration of the search, seven helicopters and three fixed-wing aircraft were tasked each day. Support was also provided by the Queensland Police including Volunteer Marine Rescue and over 50 State Emergency Service and civilian volunteer personnel who assisted with the ground search.

The accident will now be a matter for the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
