Missing NT helicopter crash site located

The crash site of a missing Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopter was located this afternoon after an intensive air search coordinated by Australian Search and Rescue.

One survivor was located at the crash site at 1.20 pm (AEST). The remaining four occupants of the helicopter were found dead at the scene.

The crash site was located at the base of the Mitchell Ranges about 90 nautical miles (166 kms) south west of the Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory.

Six fixed wing aircraft and three helicopters searched a 700 square nautical mile (1100 square kilometre) region west of the Mitchell Ranges today.

The helicopter had been surveying Aboriginal sacred sites when it crashed.
