Six people rescued off Cape Bryon
Australian Search and Rescue has coordinated the rescue of six people from a 25 metre fishing vessel east of Cape Bryon after they issued a mayday earlier today.
Two helicopters, a Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter from Lismore and a Queensland Rescue Helicopter from Brisbane, each winched three people on board after they reported their vessel was taking water 32 nautical miles (60kms) east of Cape Byron.
The boat, Tansula from Brisbane, had broken down and was being battered by 3 to 5 metre seas.
The six people were taken to Ballina. They are reported as being uninjured but suffering from moderate to severe sea sickness.
The Tansula issued a mayday via marine radio at about 11.50am this morning and the rescue was completed at 1.40pm this afternoon.
