Queensland fishermen rescued after boat sinks

Two fishermen have been rescued from rocks after their boat capsized about 30 nautical miles (56km) east of Rockhampton this morning.

Australian Search and Rescue picked up a distress beacon alert on satellite and tasked a local rescue helicopter at 7am (AEST).

The men were found clinging to Keppel Rocks near Curtis Island and flown back for medical attention to Rockhampton.

Coordination of the rescue has now been handed to the Yeppoon Water Police by AusSAR.

Meanwhile, another distress beacon was picked up by an overflying aircraft at 11am today about 90 nautical miles (166kms) north of Cooktown in north Queensland.

AusSAR has tasked an army Kiowa helicopter, which was in the area, to investigate.
