Torres Strait: Seven missing people located
Seven people missing in the Torres Strait arrived back on Daru Island in Papua New Guinea this afternoon after being picked up by a fishing vessel in the Torres Strait yesterday afternoon.
The seven people had been reported overdue on a trip from Daru Island to Stephens Island in the Torres Strait.
The people left Daru Island on Wednesday 28 May at 9am in a 7 metre fibreglass boat and were due to arrive at Stephens Island two hours later to attend a wake. They experienced engine trouble during the voyage.
They failed to arrive and were reported overdue to the police at 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday 29 May).
