AMSA CONTINUES CLEAN-UP OPERATIONS OFF WESTERN AUSTRALIAN COAST

25 August 2009

The AMSA Dornier conducted an observation flight this morning and observed that the slick remains in the vicinity of the Montara Well Head Platform.

The AMR fixed wing aerial dispersant aircraft from Truscott will be used in operations today.

The smaller aircraft are more manoeuvrable in targeting the contained area of the leak, and AMSA will continue to match its resources proportionate to the nature of the incident.

The Dornier aircraft will accompany the other aircraft to monitor the operation and supply communication from ‘on scene’ back to the Emergency Command Centre in Canberra.

AMSA has been in consultation with experts in the United Kingdom who have endorsed our response to the incident.

AMSA continues to work closely with environmental specialists and PTTEP Australasia with regard to the ongoing incident.
