Equipment

Since the purchase of $4,334,747 of equipment following recommendations in the 1993 National Plan Review, an ongoing equipment acquisition program has been developed. As part of this program, oil spill response equipment valued at approximately $500,000 is purchased on an annual basis. This equipment not only replaces existing equipment but also enhances the existing response capabilities. Primary focus during the reporting period was to ensure that all ports used by shipping have a basic set of equipment incorporating booms and skimmers to enable a first strike capability.

Additionally, four oiled wildlife rescue, cleaning and rehabilitation kits are being developed. The kits have been designed to assist with the treatment of around 500 birds and support a response in remote locations. The kits will consist of a range of veterinary supplies, health and safety items, transport boxes and logistical support materials.
