Exemption 15—Marine Safety (Scientific research and educational activities)
You do not need to apply to use this exemption unless you wish to use it outside the Great Barrier Reef Region, Torres Strait Zone, smooth waters or partially smooth waters.
Exemption 21—Marine Safety (Operator vehicular ferry-in-chains)
Individuals wishing to operate a Ferry-In-Chains are now required to apply for the Ferry-In-Chains endorsement. This endorsement can be added to a new or existing certificate of competency.

Exemption 33—Marine Safety (Sailing vessels with motor propulsion)
You do not need to apply to us for this exemption.
If we request evidence of completion of a course or unit of study you must provide it to us within 14 days.
Exemption 16—Marine Safety (Traditional fishing)
You do not need to apply to use this exemption.
You will need to keep all the supporting documents on board and ready to be presented to authorities if required.
Exemption 22—Marine Safety (Bareboats)
You do not need to apply to us for this exemption.

Exemption 2—Marine Safety (Certificates of survey)
All domestic commercial vessels are required to have a certificate of survey unless exempt.
Exemption 24—Marine Safety (Emergency services vessels)
Volunteer marine rescue and fire service organisations do not need to apply for approval to operate under Exemption 24.
Exemption 7—Marine Safety (Temporary operations) Exemption
Approvals are required in some circumstances to operate under Exemption 07.
