  In this issue ....

In May this year, Australian transport ministers identified a number of key national reforms designed to cut red tape in the transport and logistics sector to deliver consistency in the way transport is regulated across Australia.

Regulations relating to maritime safety as well as road safety, heavy vehicle regulation and licensing have been targeted for reform.

In regards to maritime safety regulation, reforms are aimed at achieving a national approach across Australia so that uniform standards are applied consistently in all jurisdictions.

Australian transport ministers are considering options to achieve these aims and have released a Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) to generate feedback from stakeholders.

Attached to this special edition of AMSA Aboard is a letter from Mr Graham Peachey, Chief Executive Officer, providing some more background on this process and inviting your views.

While AMSA’s current stakeholders may not be directly affected by these proposed reforms, we welcome your comments and encourage you to read the RIS.
