Maritime Safety Information (MSI)

RCC Australia provides MSI (coastal warnings and NAVAREA X) via Inmarsat SafetyNET.  They are designed to give the mariner information relating to dangers and aids to navigation. Many warnings are of a temporary nature, but others may remain in force for several weeks and may be superseded by Notices to Mariners.

Obtain the latest MSI by automatic response.

As well as the SafetyNET service the Bureau of Meteorology provides the weather component of MSI via the THL network employing HF voice broadcasts . This service is provided for small craft.

The service is provided from Wiluna and Charleville. The network uses the frequencies (all in kHz) of 2201, 4426, 6507, 8176, 12365 and 16546 from Charleville and 2056, 4149, 6230, 8113, 12362 and 16528 from Wiluna.

The coastal weather services broadcast from each station cover different coastal areas. Further details are available from the Bureau of Meteorology website: www.bom.gov.au/marine/marine_weather_radio.shtml.
