AUSREP
The AUSREP system is designed to contribute to safety of life at sea in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea(SOLAS). AUSREP and REEFREP, the system that operates in the Great Barrier Reef, are inter-related however they provide information for different purposes.
AUSREP is primarily a ship reporting system which provides a search and rescue function. Participation in AUSREP is mandatory for certain ships but most other commerical ships participate voluntarily. It provides a quick and accurate picture of which vessels are in the vicinity of a maritime emergency and ensures the safety of participating vessels as scheduled checks are part of the system.
