Karumba Roadstead

A roadstead off the port of Karumba has now been proclaimed under section 7 of the Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973. Articles 12 and 16 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS) permit a coastal state to incorporate into its territorial sea, roadsteads which would otherwise be wholly or partly outside the outer limits of the territorial sea.  A copy of the proclamation and a chartlet of the area are linked to this notice.

UNCLOS Article 16 requires the coastal state to insert the boundaries of the roadstead on charts of adequate scale: (a list of geographical points may be substituted for this charting action). These charts (or lists) are to be given due publicity and a copy of each chart (or list) deposited with the Secretary of the United Nations. These actions have been completed.
