Prohibition Notices

If, having conducted an investigation, it is found that it is necessary to prohibit the use, item or action onboard a ship to remove an immediate threat to health or safety of any person, AMSA will issue the person in command of the ship with a Prohibition Notice.

Improvement Notices

If, having conducted an investgation, it is found that a person is, has or likely to breach a part of the OH&S(MI) Act or its regulations, then AMSA may issue an Improvement Notice to the person in command of the ship, notifying them that they are to rectify the situation.

Prosecution

AMSA may refer serious to breaches of the OH&S(MI) Act or its regulations to the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions for prosecution. Serious penalties apply in relation to breaches.
