Report all incidents and dangerous occurrences to the Inspectorate as required by section 107 of the OH&S(MI) Act

Reporting incidents and dangerous occurrences to the Inspectorate enables AMSA to monitor and improve health and safety for seafarers.

What to report

Under the OH&S(MI) Act, operators are required to make reports on accidents to the Inspectorate, being accidents referred to in section 107(1)(a) and (b) and dangerous occurrences as defined under regulation 4 of the OHS(MI) Regulations.

All accidents that cause death or serious personal injury or cause an employee to be incapacitated for 5 or more successive days or a dangerous occurrence must be reported to the Inspectorate.


When and how to report


When an accident or dangerous occurrence has occurred on a prescribed ship or unit, the operator must notify the Inspectorate by any means available within 4 hours of becoming aware of the accident or dangerous occurrence.
