Marine Environment Protection

The protection of the marine environment is the responsibility of everyone. We must be conscious of the pollution threats to our waterways and oceans and the serious effects that may result.

Australia depends almost exclusively on shipping to move its exports and imports and has, in terms of tonnes of cargo shipped and kilometres travelled, the fifth largest shipping task in the world.

These pages provide information on reporting pollution incidents, regulations designed to prevent pollution from ships, Australia's pollution response arrangements, AMSA's involvement in other environmental issues and educational material for school children aimed at maintaining our marine environment.
