AMSA continues to strengthen its relationship with Indonesia

Recently, our Emergency Response Division hosted a delegation from Badan SAR Nasional (BASARNAS), the Indonesian national search and rescue agency.

During their visit, the delegation visited AMSA's Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia) and met with our Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mick Kinley. The visit coincided with the inaugural search and rescue forum between Australia and Indonesia, which was conducted on 3 May 2013 in our Sydney office.

The delegation comprised: Air Vice Marshall Sunarbowo Sandi, BASARNAS Deputy for Search and Rescue Potency; Major General Sumartono, BASARNAS Deputy for Search and Rescue Operations; Moh Barokna Haulah, BASARNAS Deputy Director for Search and Rescue Operations; and Rarasworo Agung Cahyono, Chief of Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation Subdivision.

This was quite a milestone for the Indonesian Transport Safety Assistance Package (ITSAP), as this is the first time that two such high ranking officers have visited RCC Australia together. The relationship that BASARNAS and AMSA share is strong and evolving favourably as both BASARNAS and AMSA conduct live cross-border search and rescue operations, as well as complex training activities.
