APHoMSA was established in 1996 in order to assist in promoting safe, secure shipping and a clean maritime environment within the Asia-Pacific region by bringing together senior maritime officials to exchange ideas and identify areas of cooperation.
This year's forum provides an opportunity to build upon the outcomes of last year's forum which was held in Vietnam. The participants agreed that clean seas, robust partnerships with the private sector, and effective implementation of international maritime conventions were needed to manage increased shipping activity in the future.
The 2013 APHoMSA forum is expected to be the largest yet, with approximately 20 countries and 6 regional organisations attending from the Asia-Pacific region. As part of this program, AMSA is honoured to host a visit from China's largest patrol vessel, the MV Haixun 01.
The APHoMSA forum has the potential to grow further, providing maritime agencies with the opportunity to work together in increasingly meaningful ways to enhance international standards.
