Andrew and Megan are both studying a Master of Maritime Policy at Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) and were awarded the scholarship for their academic excellence, leadership potential and commitment to maritime safety.

'Having been involved in responding to maritime critical incidents including ship groundings, collisions, and search and rescue operations, seeing first-hand the human and environmental devastation wrought by unsafe vessel operations, I've gained an understanding of how important maritime policy is to Australia's environment and prosperity.

'By completing this program I hope to be better equipped to support those working in the maritime sector,' Andrew said.

Megan works as a Senior Program Officer at the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources and has a keen interest in gaining a broader understanding of the law of the sea, ocean governance and maritime security.

'I am fascinated by international shipping law in particular and hope that with this scholarship I will have new opportunities in my career and access to wider networks,' Megan said.

'This course has given me a new depth of insight into our strategic geopolitical position in the world.'

AMSA Chief Executive Officer Mick Kinley said AMSA's scholarship program is a part of the organisation's commitment to build skills in the maritime industry.

'Supporting students through this Masters course helps ensure a pipeline of maritime professionals with a deep academic understanding of the industry, domestically and internationally, which will benefit AMSA's work in the future,' he said.

The AMSA Excellence in Maritime Policy Postgraduate Scholarship is awarded to students undertaking the Master of Maritime Policy to analyse the legal, political and operational factors that contribute to the development of the law of the sea and maritime policy, with the aim of devising solutions to gaps in legal and policy frameworks.
