The group was horseback riding on the Bicentennial National Trail, north east of Melbourne, when one of the riders was injured.
A personal locator beacon was activated about 4.40pm (AEDT).
RCC Australia tasked an Ambulance Victoria helicopter from La Trobe Valley, local police and ambulance to assist in the search and rescue.
An Air Ambulance paramedic assessed the horse rider, who was transported by an Ambulance Victoria vehicle to a nearby hospital.
Acting Emergency Response Division General Manager Alan Lloyd said the search and rescue was concluded within an hour, largely due to responsible beacon ownership.
'The activated personal locator beacon was properly registered and the group had provided their trip details online with AMSA,' Mr Lloyd said.
'This enabled RCC Australia to quickly find the plans of the group in AMSA's database and pinpoint their location in a rugged area, which could have taken a lot longer if these details were not available.'
AMSA's website allows beacon owners to register their personal details, emergency contacts and their trip details.
Mr Lloyd said doing this assisted search and rescue officers to respond quickly to emergencies or distress situations when beacons are activated on land or at sea.
Beacon owners are encouraged to register their beacons and their trip details for free online.
