Day of the Seafarer

The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Day of the Seafarer was celebrated on 25 June, the event's fourth year.

Around the globe there are about 1.5 million seafarers responsible for transporting 90 per cent of all household goods.

They endure tough conditions, often spending many months away from family and friends while at sea or visiting foreign ports.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is pleased to lend its support to the IMO's campaign by encouraging everyone to take the time to think about how the goods transported by seafarers improve our lives.

As part of this year's celebrations people are encouraged to complete the sentence "Seafarers brought me....", and share it on social media using the hashtag: #thankyo... Secretary-General, Koji Sekimizu has recorded a video message for this year's Day of the Seafarer.

You can also voice your support on a virtual wall.

Be sure to visit AMSA's social media channels for more posts celebrating the Day of the Seafarer.

Thank-you seafarers!
