International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu and Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss will join key speakers from the maritime industry in Australia and internationally, to discuss the latest industry developments.

AMSA Chief Executive Officer Mick Kinley said the conference is a valuable forum to keep up to date on the latest news and what’s on the horizon.

“Maritime 2014 is the best place to learn about current trends and innovation, as well as contribute to a conversation about what challenges and changes lay ahead,” Mr Kinley said.

“Speakers from all corners of the world and all facets of the industry, from the largest ship to smaller commercial vessel operators, will share their insights.

“The conference allows us to listen to industry about their experience and views on a range of issues.”

Port State control, E-navigation, liability, shipping growth, legal perspectives and more will come under the spotlight at Maritime 2014, along with a sharp focus on safety management and qualifications for domestic commercial vessel owners.

It is the first combined national shipping and domestic commercial vessel conference held by AMSA.

Government and industry will discuss hot topics for owners and operators of domestic commercial vessels, including the first year of the National System for the domestic commercial vessel fleet.

“Last year the National System replaced seven existing federal, state and territory regulators with one national maritime safety regulator for commercial vessels – the Australian Maritime Safety Authority,” Mr Kinley said.

“Maritime 2014 will provide a forum for owners and operators in the domestic commercial vessel industry to hear from their peers and share their experiences of the National System since its introduction in July last year.

“As well as presentations from high profile speakers across the industry we will also be having a number of panel discussions which we hope will prompt some healthy debate.”

The conference will feature exhibits from maritime related companies and organisations.
