We are pleased to support the work of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative and the Institute for Human Rights and Business, in collaboration with the Rafto Foundation for Human Rights and RightShip, to deliver a Seafarers' Rights and Welfare Code of Conduct and self-assessment tool for ship owners and operators.

Seafarers work in challenging environments and spend long periods of time away from friends and family, their wellbeing is essential to maintain a sustainable shipping industry. The development of a code of conduct helps support a safe, healthy, and secure onboard work environment.

The Code of Conduct reinforces compliance with the International Labour Organization Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) and has been developed in consultation with shipowners, operators, charterers, cargo owners and seafarers' associations. It provides a practical, easy to understand and implementable standard for the maritime industry.

We encourage ship owners and operators to get behind this initiative and explore ways to strengthen and support the welfare of seafarers.
