Maritime 2014: Ship to Shore will bring the shipping industry and operators of Australia’s domestic commercial vessel fleet together at Crown Melbourne from November 10 - 12.

AMSA Chief Executive Officer Mick Kinley said it was the first time a combined shipping and domestic vessel conference had been held by AMSA.

“Maritime 2014 will bring together international, national and regional representatives who make up this important industry, from the largest ship to the owner operator of a domestic commercial vessel,” Mr Kinley said.

It is the first conference hosted by AMSA since the commencement of the Navigation Act 2012 and the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessels) National Law Act 2012 on July 1, 2013.

This legislation replaced eight federal, State and Territory laws with a single law for the safety of all commercial vessels and their crew in Australian waters.

Mr Kinley said domestic vessel operators could expect a heavy focus on Safety Management Systems and robust panel discussions on the National System a year on from its commencement.

“AMSA has a number of panel discussions which are designed to inspire healthy debate among those who have first-hand knowledge of the industry,” he said.

Regulation, safety, seafarer qualifications, navigation, search and rescue will be up for discussion, with a host of local and international experts presenting on these topics.

Maritime 2014 speakers include representatives from the federal government, the International Maritime Organization and industry.

The conference will also feature exhibits from maritime related companies and organisations.

Once registered, a delegate from each state and territory has the chance to win airfares, accommodation and delegate registration.
