National Response Team training

Thursday 6 March 2014
In February, AMSA's Marine Environment Division held annual training in Devonport, Tasmania, for team leaders from the National Response Team (NRT).
NRT Training

Under the National Plan for Maritime Environmental Emergencies, the NRT provides support to the Australian and state/Northern Territory (NT) governments in the event of a major oil pollution incident.

About 70 team leaders from across Australia travelled to Devonport to undertake safety training around aircraft, and worked in groups using equipment utilised in the event of an oil spill. Devonport has one of nine of AMSA's strategically placed national stockpiles. There has been a substantial multimillion dollar investment in these stockpiles with upgrading and replacement of equipment. Team leaders used the stockpiled equipment on East Devonport Beach and at the wharf.

During the visit, AMSA presented a local primary school with information packs on our role in protecting the environment.
