Not only did he save two boaties from dark, treacherous conditions during a 2017 river rescue, but the Queensland police officer once led hundreds of civilians to safety during catastrophic flooding in Bundaberg six years ago.
Andrew was the recipient of the 2018 Professional Search and Rescue Award for his courageous efforts in the rescue on the Elliot River in September 2017.
He's encouraging people who have been involved in a search and rescue, to nominate for the 2019 Australian Search and Rescue Awards.
'I'm paid to save lives but the real heroes are the volunteers and people who aren't trained to face their fears,' Andrew said.
'I'd encourage people to acknowledge those who go that extra effort to save a life, it's important to show what a difference they make to community spirit'.
AMSA is a member of the National Search and Rescue Council that is responsible for Australia's search and rescue response arrangements.
The Awards recognise outstanding contribution to search and rescue in Australia between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019.
Individuals, groups or organisations who have made a significant contribution and deserve recognition can nominate.
