What's different for me?
Owners of commercial vessels operating in Australian waters
- A new simplified vessel survey regime with greater flexibility and alignment to other vessel maintenance.
- All vessel surveys must be carried out by an AMSA-accredited surveyor.
- One national schedule of fees for services.
- A new national levy with no payment required during the first year.
- Incidents must be reported directly to AMSA.
- You will be responsible for holding and maintaining your own records.
Commercial fishing, aquaculture or boat hire businesses, tour, ferry or barge operators
- You can operate across borders under one certificate of operation.
- One national schedule of fees for services, including certificates of operation and exemptions.
- Incidents must be reported directly to AMSA.
- Guidance and assistance available online, over the phone, or from one of our regional officers.
- You will be responsible for holding and maintaining your own records.
Seafarers or crew members of a commercial vessel
- We will issue you a reminder notice when your certificate is due for renewal.
- One national fee for your certificate of competency.
- You will need to submit your certificate in person at a participating Australia Post outlet.
- Practical assessments will be undertaken by an AMSA-approved RTO for coxswain 1 and 2, Master < 24, Master inland waters, marine engine driver 2 and 3 and general purpose hand certificates.
