Police and ambulance personnel have reached the survivors and are assessing the injured.

A decision will be made by the ground response team as to whether they will be able to make the hour long walk from the crash site or if they will need to be airlifted.

The helicopter company advised AMSA of the crash soon after 1pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.

The helicopter crashed near Cooktown in the Mt Cook National Park.

AMSA has tasked a helicopter from Townsville, due on-scene at 4.15pm (AEDT), AMSA’s Cairns based search and rescue aircraft and a ground response team, comprising of local police, fire-fighting rescue service, ambulance and National Park personnel.
