About 11.35am AEST this morning, AMSA was advised by the Queensland Police Service that a landowner had come across objects on a mountain plateau on his property that could be related to an aircraft.
The landowner returned to the site with local police and several helicopter crew members to investigate the objects.
The objects were confirmed to be the wreckage of the overdue light aircraft about 3.15pm AEST this afternoon. The aircraft appears to have impacted the ground at high speed.
Search efforts continue on the ground to locate the pilot of the aircraft. The wreckage was located within the southern part of the search area about 6km north west of the town of Woolooga.
A total of five fixed wing aircraft and 12 helicopters were tasked to assist in search activities today.
AMSA thanks all personnel and agencies involved in the search over the past three days for their assistance. AMSA is in discussion with police regarding the ongoing search efforts.
