AboutThe National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) sub-section C7B specifies requirements standards for the design, manufacture, installation, operation, and scale of communications equipment to be carried on vessels.
Announcement

This NSCV was updated as a result of the NSCV Omnibus amendments instrument No 1, 2022 (AMSA has made minor editorial amendments to eight NSCVs to address consequential amendments resulting from the revocation of NSCV Part D).

Summary of changes:

[1] In clause 1.4 Referenced Documents:

Remove

“Part D-Crew Competencies.”

Add

“Marine Order 505 – (Certificates of Competency – National Law) 2022 (Marine Order 505).”

[2] In clause 7.3 Qualifications of Operators:

Substitute “NSCV Part D” here:

“The radiotelephony and satellite equipment in each vessel shall be operated by those persons holding radio operator qualifications in accordance with NSCV Part D, specific to the type of equipment installed on the vessel.”

with

“The radiotelephony and satellite equipment in each vessel shall be operated by those persons holding radio operator qualifications in accordance with Marine Order 505, specific to the type of equipment installed on the vessel.”

NOTE: This standard does not include requirements for EPIRBs that are packed in life rafts. Refer to NSCV C7A – Safety Equipment for life raft requirements.
