SARMAP Marine Drift Modelling
This module has been designed to provide you with an understanding of SARMAP, the search and rescue mapping software used to predict the path of different floating objects as well as the potential origin of found objects. Simulation activities are used throughout the course to guide learners through the SARMAP system.
After completing this course, learners will be familiar with the operational functions and features of SARMAP and know how to independently run the SARMAP drift model, forwards and backwards, for persons or objects that are lost at sea. Learners will be able to compare the model predictions to known object locations and obtain wind and current data by accessing Environmental Data Servers (EDS). The module will provide information on how to produce search planning reports including Google Earth, AVI video file, PowerPoint file and a Word document from the drift model outputs.
