Become a trainer assessor for Exemption 38

We will not not approve Exemption 38 approved training organisations (ATOs) as Marine Order 506 has been repealed.

Exemption 38 can be delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) which have the Exemption 38 three units of competency in their scope of registration.  ATO’s that are approved can continue to do so as per your original approval.

To be approved as a trainer assessor for Exemption 38 you have to be working for a RTO or an existing ATO .

We may determine a person as an AMSA approved trainer assessor under Exemption 38.

To be determined by us, you should apply using AMSA form 735.

An applicant should:

  • Hold minimum a Coxswain Grade 1 NC unrestricted certificate of competency or approved equivalent.
  • Provide a statement of experience in workplace training and assessment and attach relevant qualifications.
  • Provide details of a professional referee.
  • Be a fit and proper person

A final practical assessment under Exemption 38 should be recorded on form AMSA 536.
