Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS)

The Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) constitutes one of the greatest changes in marine navigation since the introduction of radar. ECDIS may be accepted as meeting the chart carriage requirement of the SOLAS Convention. The carriage requirement of ECDIS, commencing for some types of ships on international voyages from 1 July 2011, has been implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) (ref. Maritime Safety Committee Resolution MSC.282 (86)).

AMSA has developed an Information Sheet that provides detailed guidance on the carriage and use of ECDIS on board Australian registered ships.
