Private seafarer recruitment and placement services

Private seafarer recruitment and placement services whose primary purpose is the recruitment and placement of seafarers must register with us before they begin:

• recruiting and placing seafarers on regulated Australian vessels
• recruiting and placing seafarers on foreign flagged vessels operating in Australia.

If you intend to operate a private seafarer recruitment and placement services, you must make sure the service is operated in accordance with Regulation 1.4 of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 and Marine Order 11 (Living and working conditions on vessels) 2015.

Once registered with us, private seafarer recruitment and placement services will be published in the register below. Your registration will need to be renewed every 5-years and a new application will need to be submitted for approval.

This provides evidence that we have approved and registered the company, and it meets the requirements of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 and Marine Order 11 (Living and working conditions on vessels) 2015.

Once registered, companies may be subject to audit and inspection. Periodically, we will ask to see evidence of how a private seafarer recruitment and placement service is being operated.

We will also recognise registered seafarer recruitment and placement services from member countries that have ratified the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.
