Exemption 43—Marine Safety (Extension of time—first aid and crewing)
If a certificate of competency for a member of crew expires between 26 March 2020 and 1 October 2020 and the person is permitted to continue performing duties on the vessel under Exemption 42, or their first aid certificate has recently expired, the holder of the vessel’s certificate of operation is temporarily exempt for the conditions of the certificate regarding crewing and first aid certificates.
You do not need to apply for this exemption, it will happen automatically.
What this exemption will allow you to do
- Permits crew, subject to this exemption, to work on a domestic commercial vessel for this extension period where their first aid certificate has recently expired.
- Permits the vessel to be operated without breaching the conditions of a certificate of operation where the master or crew are performing duties uncertificated only because their certificate of competency recently expired and they are permitted to continue performing duties on the vessel under Exemption 42.
