AMSA celebrates World Maritime Day 2016

Thursday 29 September 2016
On Thursday 29 September 2016 the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is celebrating World Maritime Day.
World maritime day

World Maritime Day was first established by the IMO in 1978 to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment, and to emphasise a particular aspect of the IMO's work.

This year's theme chosen by the IMO is 'Shipping: Indispensable to the World'. The theme was chosen to focus on the critical link between shipping and the everyday lives of people all over the planet, and to raise awareness of the role of the IMO as the international regulatory body for international shipping.

World Maritime Day gives the shipping industry an opportunity to tell its story: the story of an industry that, in terms of efficiency, safety, environmental impact and its contribution to global trade is unmatched by any other transport sector.

AMSA is pleased to help the IMO celebrate the day.
