Sunday 25 January 2015
As part of the Australian Government's Indonesian Transport Safety Assistance Package (ITSAP), AMSA regularly provides port State control (PSC) training in cooperation with the Indonesian Directorate General of Sea Transport (DGST).
Opening meeting, Banten Province

This training helps to improve the overall safety performance of Indonesian maritime operations. It is part of AMSA's commitment to capacity building by supporting a range of projects for improving transport safety in Indonesia, and contributes to the ongoing engagement between AMSA and DGST.

From 26 October to 6 November, AMSA Marine Surveyor Ajay Rana provided PSC training to 28 potential Port State Control Officers from DGST and the Indonesian Coastguard. The training, held at Gresik, East Java Province and at Cilegon, Banten Province, included:

  • advice on code of conduct
  • best practices for PSC, the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 and Enclosed Space Entry
  • practical shipboard inspection training.

The senior management of DGST is keen to improve the efficiency and quality of the PSC inspection regime in Indonesia, and both management and the course participants were very keen to learn from AMSA's experience and expertise.
