Australia and the Republic of Korea sign a Memorandum of Understanding

On 27 November, AMSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on general cooperation with the Republic of Korea Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) during the International Maritime Organization Assembly meeting in London.

The MoU acknowledges the importance of safety, security and environmental protection in the international shipping industry, and is intended to formalise and acknowledge the mutual benefits of a close relationship between Australia and the Republic of Korea on maritime matters.

The MoU includes the development of a five-year Work Program; provision for an annual bilateral meeting, which will include discussions on port State control and flag State control issues; sharing of technical expertise through mutually beneficial activities such as workshops, seminars, informal networking and conferences; and discussions on areas of mutual interest in international forums such as the IMO and the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA); and cooperation on other issues where information exchange would benefit both AMSA and MOF.
