The display is part of Asia Pacific’s oil spill prevention and response conference Spillcon 2013, which is being held from 8-12 April in Cairns and attracting more than 500 delegates from across the world.
From 2.30pm to 5.30pm on 11 April, there will be no public access to the cruise liner terminal or the area of Trinity Inlet in the vicinity of Trinity Wharf (Berths 1-6) to accommodate a display demonstrating a response to a simulated oil spill incident.
The demonstration will include a hazardous material response using a helicopter, the simulated application of dispersant from two aircraft and deploying boom and containment equipment.
AMSA’s emergency towage vessel Pacific Responder and search and rescue aircraft will also be assisting in the display.
The deployment will be conducted by personnel from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Maritime Safety Queensland, the Australian Marine Oil Spill Centre, and the National Response Team and Oil Industry Core Group.
