Certificate of survey
To obtain or renew a certificate of survey and/or load line certificate, the vessel must be surveyed and meet the specific design, construction, stability and safety equipment standards that are required for the vessel. Certificates are generally issued for a five-year period.
From 1 July 2018, you will need to apply for your certificate of survey through AMSA instead of your local marine safety agency.
Certificates of competency
To work on a commercial vessel you will generally need a current certificate of competency or an exemption.

Renewing your certificate of competency from 1 July 2018

Certificates of operation
All domestic commercial vessels are required to have a certificate of operation unless they are exempt.

To obtain or renew a certificate of operation, you must provide details of the vessel used in your operation, as well as how and where you intend to operate it. You must also have a safety management system in place, even if you are exempt from the requirement to have a certificate of operation.
