AMSA welcomed Mr Sanjay Mitra, Secretary of Defence of India to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.
Mr Mitra expressed his thanks for our role in the successful search and rescue operation for Commander Abhilash Tomy who was representing India in the Golden Globe Yacht Race when his yacht SV Thuriya rolled and dismasted in rough weather in the Indian Ocean on September 21, 2018.
AMSA coordinated the multi-national search that rescued Commander Tomy and a second race participant Irish National Gregor McGuckin. Commander Tomy was safely returned to India by the Indian Navy and is reported to be in good health.
