About 1000 (AEST) AMSA Search and Rescue was contacted by the Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in the United Kingdom which reported it had received a distress call relating to the two rowers off the Western Australian coast.
AMSA Search and Rescue officers then made contact with the two rowers via satellite phone.
The two men advised their vessel had rolled a number of times due to heavy seas and strong winds.
As a result of the conditions one of the rowers sustained an injury to his head and some of their equipment was lost over the side.
The men activated their emergency beacon and their position was confirmed to be about 175 kilometres west of Kalbarri in Western Australia.
AMSA sent the nearby oil tanker Dubai Charm and a WA Police plane to the area to rescue the two men.
Two helicopters from Perth were also repositioned to Geraldton to aid in the transfer of the two men ashore if they required urgent medical attention.
The tanker and plane arrived on scene at about 1500 (AEST) and the two rowers were recovered onto the ship about 20 minutes later.
The two men were medically assessed and will be transferred ashore by boat at a later stage, the Dubai Charm will continue on its voyage to Geelong.
