Seafarers work under some of the toughest conditions, facing daily challenges like no other workplace.
Working at sea means long periods of time separated from family and friends, extended and irregular work hours, and remoteness of the work environment. Not to mention the many operational challenges, such as weather, ship motion, work hazards and high work demands.
The COVID-19 pandemic has seen seafarers shoulder an even greater burden. Disruptions to travel and quarantine measures have forced seafarers to remain on board their ships longer, often without access to shore leave.
