Dory operations involve a fleet of small boats with only one or two people on board, fishing in a designated zone and reporting to a parent vessel overseeing their activities.
This year alone, search and rescuers responded to 25 distress calls to dories operating in Queensland.
The three-hour workshops are part of AMSA's push to improve safety for crew working on these small fishing vessels.
Dory fishing operators and crew face unique safety challenges and the workshops will focus on safety management of the associated risks.
AMSA's General Manager of Operations, Allan Schwartz, said that too often, search and rescue responders are deployed to avoidable incidents involving dories.
'Serious incidents such as fatalities could be avoided with a simple marine radio, beacon and the correct safety gear on the vessels' Mr Schwartz said.
'Installing a radio and registered beacons on-board all dories, ensuring crew wear life jackets, and equipping the vessel with the right safety gear is a proactive approach to managing safety.'
AMSA's push to reduce dory incidents and prevent deaths at sea is part of targeted education and compliance activities with Queensland Police Service and Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol.
