Why report an incident

Wednesday 17 August 2022
Providing detailed descriptions of a marine incident, including context and how it is being managed, will help us understand the risks, and influence our response to the situation.
Why report an incident

Incident reporting helps us:

  • Have an informed picture of the risks affecting the industry and in turn allows us to respond to poorly detected risks.
  • Build an accurate and reliable database to help guide our future education and compliance activities.
  • Provide insights and trends to ensure safety policies and campaigns can be developed effectively to assist the industry.
  • Provide us and industry with assurance that safety culture is improving.

By reporting, you are also meeting your reporting obligation under the National Law and/or the Navigation Act.

Don’t ignore it, report it. Read more
