Or that our AMSA Response Centre responded to 5,151 operational incidents? You might be surprised to learn we spent 863,867 minutes on the phone helping people with their enquiries—that’s the equivalent of 1,894.5 working days!
This year, AMSA’s Challenger jet spent 826 hours in the air, took part in 184 search and rescue missions, and delivered 58 air droppable items.
We conducted 2,986 Port state control inspections, detained 174 vessels and banned 5 ships from entering Australian ports.
As part of our work to help light the way for vessels, we used 3,040 litres of paint to spruce up Commonwealth lighthouses and changed 39 lights on marine Aids to Navigation. We also inspected 293 sites, including lighthouses, navigation marks and radar beacons
Just over 44,000 distress beacons were registered in 2020, bringing the total number of registered beacons in Australia to 674,839.
