Exemption 13—Marine Safety (Wildlife or other sightseeing) 2017

Marine Safety (Wildlife or other sightseeing) Exemption 2017 (Exemption 13) under subsection 143(1) of the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law.

Exemption 13 allows you to participate in a specified operation in inland waters without holding a certificate of competency. This specified operation will be a wildlife or other sightseeing operation.

If you have permission to operate under this exemption until after 30 January 2018, you will continue to be exempt until 2020.

Eligibility

To be suitable for Exemption 13, you must be capable of being the master of a vessel that is less than:

  • 12 metres long
  • 100 kilowatts inboard or unlimited outboard powered.

You must also hold an approval for an exemption for wildlife or other sightseeing. You must restrict the operation of your vessel to less than 10 knots during the operation.

We may impose additional restrictions on your operation depending on the condition of the waters you are operating in.

How to apply

Complete an Application for wildlife or other sightseeing exemption form 791 and submit it to dcvapplications@amsa.gov.au.
