Australian seafarer's service book

Use an Australian seafarer's service book (ASSB) to keep a record of your sea service on an Australian or international vessel in international waters.

The purpose of the ASSB is to help you keep a personal record of your sea service. The ASSB is a record of service only and should not be used as a document of identity for the purpose of the International Labour Organisation Convention No. C185.

The ASSB does not replace an employment contract required by the Maritime Labour Convention.

We will not accept responsibility for records entered into an ASSB, nor for use of the information it contains. If you need the records in your ASSB verified, you should advise prospective employers and other interested parties to contact the owner or operator of the ship(s) concerned.
