Australian Seafarers' Welfare Council

The welfare of seafarers is a major factor in the safe working and operation of the industry.

The shipping industry depends on the 1.4 million seafarers that crew the ships of the world’s commercial fleets. As part of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006, welfare boards are now required at the port, regional and national level.

Australia established the Australian Seafarers' Welfare Council (ASWC) to make sure welfare facilities are kept up to standard and to assist in the coordination of port and regional welfare committees.
